TADEUSZ WOJNARSKI

Investigations

Tadeusz Wojnarski [?] while creating the scenery for a regiment theatre performance; Iraq, 1942 or 1943. Although the artist is only visible from behind, I’m almost sure he’s my father.

1. Theatre of the 2nd Carpathian Light Artillery Regiment – 2 PAL: My father organized with his friend «Staszek» (Jaroslaw Henryk Rudniański) a regiment theatre in Iraq. Does anyone else have any knowledge or photos of it? Look at the article «In the Middle East» (Na bliskim Wschodzie) and the photo on the left: Is this a photo of 2nd-PAL-Theatre in Iraq 1942/43?

2. Chronicle of the 2nd Carpathian Light Artillery Regiment – 2 PAL: My father used to make caricatures for the regiment chronicle. The chronicle was led by Lt. Józef «Zeflik» Wróblewski. Among other things, he drew the colonel of the regiment, and he took revenge and his father waited a long time for the promotion to lieutenant (quoted on the page «On the Italian front» (Na frońcie we Włoszech). Does anyone know where this chronicle is?

Article about a photo exhibition, Middle East, July 1943. This photograph with Tadeusz Wojnarski [?] was shown at this exhibition and published here.

Lucjan Słota in May 1991 at the Polish military cemetery of Monte Cassino

Possibly a portrait of Lucjan Słota, Italy 16.09.1944

Possible caricature of Lucjan Słota (no date, between 1942 and 1945)

3. Search: Lucjan «Lutek» Słota was an important friend of my father. He was born in 1923 and was a lieutenant. During the battle of Monte Cassino he was a close witness to the tragic death of comrades (see Polish text: Michał Kopytko and «Eksplozja w piątej»).

There was another important colleague: Henryk Mleczko.

Thank you very much for any advice (wtadeusz(at)bluewin.ch).

Mickey Mouse (project for the «Kino 71»), Italy 1945
gouache, paper, 19.2 x 12.7 cm

4. Regimental Cinema (Kino 71): After the war (summer 1945) a cinema was established in the 2nd Carpathian Light Artillery Regiment. My father painted the cinema bus with Disney characters. Sketches in gouache technique have been preserved in the family archive (see picture on the left and the article «The war is over. What next?» – Wojna skończona. I co dalej?). Does anyone own photos of this painted cinema bus or has he/she seen such?

5. Aleksander «Alek» Werner: In 1946, my father learned the technique of ink drawing from «Alek». They partially traveled together through Italy. I’m looking for Alexander Werner’s drawings from this period to explore mutual artistic influences (see more on the Studying in Rome (Na studjach w Rzymie) and beyond).

Catalogue of one of the exhibitions in «Circolo Artistico Internazionale». Wojnarski often came here to draw nudes. Maybe he exhibited here, too?

6. Exhibitions in Rome 1946: Exhibitions in Rome 1946: My father certainly already exhibited in Rome. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a trace of them until now. The Polish artists exhibited their works in the “Associazione Artistica Internazionale – Circolo Artistico”, the “Associazione Artistica Internazionale – ART CLUB” and other places.

I am very grateful for all information and hints from the readers.
