These portraits and caricatures from General Anders› 2. Polish Corps are absolutely unique. So far, no images of this quality, expressiveness and emotionality are known. There were created by my Father during his military service in the 2nd Polish Corps in the Middle East and Italy. Unfortunately, we don’t know any names. Maybe somebody will recognize a relative or a friend in these pictures. I would be very happy if these faces could be attributed to specific people.

Unknown colleague, Iraq 1944

Iraq 1943

In September 1942 the 3rd Carpathian Rifle Division (3 Dywizja Strzelców Karpackich) was transferred from Palestine for further exercises to Iraq, to the Qizil Ribat/Khanaqiun region and in November 250 km north to the Altun-Kopru region. Somewhere in the beginning of 1943 Wojnarski returned southwards to the officer’s school (podchorążówka) in Khanaqiunu (Chanaqin). Between 11.01. and on 06.06.943 he draws 16 caricatures for his memoirs. Maybe someone from the readers of this website will recognize someone? After completing his military education, Tadeusz Wojnarski was given the opportunity to finish his Matura exam, for which he missed one year in 1939. At the end of the summer of 1943 he started his high school graduation course in the military camp Barbara in Paledtine. Here he drew at least 17 caricatures, many of them were published in «Zabieramy Głos» (We’re speaking) Nr. 1 und Nr. 2). Maybe someone from the readers of this website will recognize someone?
